Mikado couldn't help but think this was all his own fault. He shouldn't have said anything when he asked, and just continued to play it like there was nothing different. Then again, he had no idea that Masaomi would have responded like that, and maybe he shouldn't be so hard on himself. Either way though, he knew that he was the one that could have prevented this and began to shoulder all the blame on himself.

There was no sign of him in his daily routine. His room was empty, his desk was empty, and his walk from place to place now was by himself. Sometimes he'd turn around, expecting a familiar face, but only to see no one. The realization hit him as he recognized this situation as all too familiar, and for the third time in his life, his best friend was vanished.

...And what terrible timing, too. ]

[ Mikado usually isn't one to use the voice function, but this time he figures it's the easiest way to get a lot of people's attention. ]

I'm sure most of you have heard of someone named "Kida Masaomi." He's... well, he's blond, has piercings, is loud and obnoxious, and he likes to pick up girls, and he's my... ...I'm sorry, I'm getting sidetracked.

His birthday is a week from now, and I think it would be nice to throw a party for him. So for those of you who are his friends, if you wouldn't mind helping me organize something I would really appreciate it. I... want this to be special. For him.

Yep. [Gold pops open his own can and takes a sip, before leaning against the couch. He'll cut right to the chase.]

...Between us? [ Mikado knows exactly what he's talking about, but playing it dumb. ]

[ His head drops and he just decides to focus on the soda on the table. Yeah, he does, but he decides not to say anything. It's not that he doesn't trust Gold... this is territory he wouldn't dare tread on with anyone else. Period. ]

[A pause, as he watches Mikado.]

...Come on, dude. You and Kida're supposed to be best friends, aren't you? This isn't how best friends're supposed to be.

[ Frowning a bit in thought, before finally opening his mouth, and speaking slowly. ] ...I think he's mad at me.

[That much is obvious.]

You got any idea what might've happened? He seemed pretty keen on stickin' by you before the Draft.

[ He was? That much he didn't know, and he glances over at Gold. ] I said something... that I shouldn't have.

Are you gonna tell me what? We can't do anything to help you out if we don't know what went down between you two, and like hell I'm gonna let a friend's relationship go sour when there's somethin' I can do to help patch things up!

[ Help? This catches his attention. ...Even though he really wants this to be something he fixes on his own. ] ...Have you seen him since we got back?

[That prompts Gold to look away from Mikado when he says that.]

[ Cautiously... ] ...What did he say?

...He told me to watch out for a guy here in Luceti.

Who? [ glancing over curiously ]

Said his name's Izaya.

[ He perks. ] Orihara Izaya, you mean? He's not that bad.

Kida seemed to act like he's the devil.

Eh? That's not true. [ A small smile appears on his lips. ] He can be helpful sometimes.

...Sometimes?

W-Well, yeah... He's helped me out a bit before.

Riiiight. Like how? [Personally? Gold's not convinced. One side hates him, one side doesn't... He's gonna have to get a third opinion.]

I was... [ He debates on how much he should tell Gold, and a small smile starts tugging at the corner of his mouth. ] I was having a really rough time, and I was in trouble and so confused... but then Izaya-san helped me. He gave me some advice, and I got out of it okay. Thanks to him, I am where I am today. [ That smile? Becomes slightly warped as it spreads across his face. ]

[That smile's unnerving.]

[ nodnod ] Yeah, that's his job at home.

[A nod.]

Right... So you really don't know what went down between you two?
